Funeral Limo Crash

Funerals are generally a sad time anyway, but when a nine year old girl died during a limousine crash in her grandmother’s funeral procession it was an even more devastating event. Cheyenne Thomas was killed when the funeral limousine she was riding in was hit on its way to Grandview Memorial Park here Cheyenne’s grandmother was to be buried.

Her grandmother Freedonia Horne died just over a week before a startling twelve people were injured in the funeral procession. The chauffeurs in two of the funeral limousines also sustained injuries, including cuts and bruises. A witness to the accident was waiting for the funeral procession to pass when she saw a truck cross out of its lane and hit three vehicles coming up on its right side.

It was the witness who dialled 911 and being too distraught to give the operator her location, she was tracked by the GPS in her cell phone. She was however, able to head over to the accident site where she saw the victims, several of them young children.

The accident is still being investigated but the devastation is clear without an official result. It is however, interesting to wonder what would have happened had the truck hit three ordinary vehicles? Would their reduced size have made the death toll from the accident higher? Were the other passengers in the funeral limousines protected because of the larger size of the vehicles and the extra reinforcement and modifications which were sure to be carried out when the limousine was stretched?

Or were the twelve people injured in the funeral procession because they were careless about their safety because they were riding in a limousine? Were they wearing their seatbelts to protect them in case of an accident or were they lulled into the sense that a limousine and a limousine ride is not like a normal car ride and a seatbelt is not necessary?
